ProPeru-Stoves Project

Right now we are working in conjunction with a non-profit organization called ProPeru in order to help families live in smoke free household. For hundreds of years, rural residents around Urubamba and Cusco, Peru have cooked their meals over open fires inside their homes. This open fire cooking allows smoke to fill the household creating respiratory and eye problems for women and children who constantly reside in the home. ProPeru has come up with a stove, equipped with a chimney, that eliminates the smoke from the home and and helps alleviate the conditions the at come with smoke exposure. Also, the stoves are more efficient than open fire stoves in that they require 20% less wood to cook the same amount of food, thereby reducing carbon emissions. The demand for the stoves is so high that ProPeru is wanting to set up its own manufacturing plant to build the stoves so that they do not have buy at a higher price. The manufacturing plant itself would be more efficient by utilizing a new design and superior technology for the kiln and cut carbon emissions by half. We are helping ProPeru in their effort to set up their manufacturing plant by researching and developing grant opportunities, investigating possible carbon credit opportunities, and revising the Stove Project Proposal already in place. We plan on doing anything we can to help ProPeru raise the $100,000 dollars necessary to fund the stoves manufacturing plant. So, if the manufacturing plant were to be built, there would be less cost to ProPeru, families would not be exposed to high levels of smoke, and carbon emissions would be greatly decreased.
