Breakout Topic: Marketing on a Shoestring

I Bob White do thoroughly enjoy my travel through life. After graduating from Graceland with a BA in Sociology and Religion, family and friends have been my companions. We have had a blast!

I have also enjoyed growing two businesses;

Currently I own IDEX, a legal research company with 4700 coast to coast client firms. We research, collect information, enhance it, manage it, disseminate it and send clients a bill. It’s interesting helping with cases like the Simpson case, the Sioux City airline accident, the Prince of Spain versus Vail beheading, and the Oklahoma bombing case. Forbes Magazine called us the “Secret Weapon of the defense bar”. The company has done well and been on Kansas City’s “Ingrams” fastest growing list 9 of the last 11 years.

In an earlier life I owned a boutique tree maintenance company called Tree Doctor known for quality care. Our finest hour? Being the only company allowed to bid on trimming Harry Truman’s trees after an ice storm in 83! I sold Tree Doctor in 1998 after a 17 year run.

With regard to these businesses I am happy to say:
1. Clients have valued our products and services
2. We have always had below market prices
3. Both have been very profitable, 24%- 66%
4. Both have had a high retention of great employees
5. and I personally have rarely dreaded going to work on Mondays and I don’t particularly look forward to Fridays!!
