Cliff Illig Biography

Cliff Illig is an accomplished business executive and civic leader in the Kansas City area. He is a Co-founder and Vice Chairman of Cerner Corporation, the Kansas City-based healthcare information technology company. Cerner is the global leader in the development and deployment of comprehensive information systems strategies for hospitals, healthcare systems, physicians, employers, governments and national health economies. Cliff has 30-plus years of experience in the computer software and high technology industry. Prior to becoming Vice-chairman of its Board he served as Cerner’s President and Chief Operating Officer from 1985 to 1999. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the KU School of Business with degrees in Accounting and Business Administration.

Cliff Illig is a substantial presence on the Kansas City entrepreneurial, life sciences and business development scene. He is a recipient of a number of national as well as regional Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. He is a real estate developer, an angel investor and also serves as an advisor to a number of Kansas City’s entrepreneurial startup companies. Cliff and his Cerner co-founder, Neal Patterson, lead the group of Kansas City entrepreneurs that owns the Kansas City Wizards Soccer Club and that is driving the $1 billion re-development of the Bannister Mall area anchored by a new soccer-specific stadium for Kansas City. Cliff serves on the Board of Governors of Major League Soccer.

Finally, Cliff is active on more than a dozen of our area’s civic boards and organizations. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Stowers Institute for Medical Research and of BioMed Valley Discoveries, the for-profit life sciences commercialization arm of Stowers. He is on the boards of the Boy Scouts, the First Hand Foundation as well as the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park. He and his wife, Bonne, are also active in their support of an array of local and national civic and charitable causes.
